Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. demonstrated the sensor network system using a combination of dye-sensitized solar cells and various sensors at "CEATEC JAPAN 2012". Regarding the dye-sensitized solar cell in this system, Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. is promoting the development of its practical use around 2013 to 2014.
The size of the dye-sensitized solar cell displayed this time was the size of a business card, and its thickness was 350 μm, and was formed by connecting eight battery cells in series. A battery module is formed using a combination of dozens of ceramic capacitors for power storage and wireless circuits. At the venue, Murata made use of the module and magnetic sensors to perform a demonstration of detecting the opening and closing of windows and sending notifications to the tablet computer.

Murata has previously demonstrated prototypes of dye-sensitized solar cells at CEATEC. The output power of the products exhibited in 2011 was 5 μW/cm2, which increased to 6-7 μW/cm2 in 2012. Increase the voltage of each cell from 0.4 to 0.5V to 0.45 to 0.55V. The above values are the measurement results of the small area unit. The white LED is used for measurement, and the illumination is set to 200lx.
