Today, Toyota put Mirai on the market, marking that it has completed what GM has not done in the past. It is understood that Toyota not only solves the cost problem, but also the safety requirements of the gas storage tank have greatly exceeded the international standards. Next, with the acceleration of the construction of the hydrogen refueling station, the scale effect will become more apparent.
For a long time, it has been argued that Toyota is pragmatic and conservative in its new energy strategy. At the Shanghai Auto Show, Toyota President Yamada said that in terms of new energy, he is more inclined to reduce energy consumption first. So they started with hybrids and reduced fuel consumption. Toyota has already made the hybrid technology world-class, and people will think that Toyota may follow the plug-in hybrid and pure electric road step by step. But the commercial launch of Mirai has made us see that Toyota may skip pure electric power and go directly to the ultimate solution – the great possibility of hydrogen power.
Perhaps, some people still insist on the electric route, and compare the advantages of electric and hydrogen power in terms of technology, cost, and supporting facilities. However, Toyota’s hydrogen-powered car is definitely not a small cost and safety. Steps, but substantial steps that could change the direction of new energy vehicles.
