Three new medical grade thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) are superior to industry standard TPE in biomedical tubing, making them an effective alternative to widely used silicones. Teknor Apex will introduce a new Medalist® compound at MD & MWest, and will introduce the level of peristaltic pump applications at the Technical Theatre during the show.
Teknor Apex recommends three compounds for challenging pipeline applications in peristaltic pumps and extreme low temperature applications in the biopharmaceutical industry. The material designed for the peristaltic pump tubing provides the resilience required to keep pace with the fast pump action and provides the durability required for the tube to retain its shape and remain intact over time. Compared to industry standard TPE replacement silicones, Medalist TPE exhibits a lower level of delamination, i.e., detachment of particles from the inner and outer surfaces of the tube during repeated pumping and release during pump operation.
Medalist MD-12352 is a 52Shore translucent TPE designed for peristaltic pump tubing.
The Medalist MD-50357 is a clear, slightly hard TPE (58ShoreA) for the peripheral pump tube, which can be aseptically welded and heat sealed.
Medalist MD-10353 is a transparent compound used in extremely low temperature biopharmaceutical pipelines. When the brittle temperature is below -60 ° C, the TPE maintains a flexible and flexible conduit that promotes fluid transfer during thermal biopharmaceutical production.
These three medal compounds exhibit significantly lower permeability than silicone. They can be sterilized by electron beam, gamma ray irradiation and ethylene oxide (ETO).

The new Medalist compound is made from ingredients listed by the FDA and meets at least the ISO 10993-5 biocompatibility standard and is compliant with REACHSVHC. They are free of DEHP and other phthalates, bisphenol A and latex. The standard rating is no ADM.
