According to Bae, Siloxane polymers are similar in hardness to glass and are as flexible as plastic. They tested with a display that was folded inward and found that the new material has a hardness of 9H and can be bent more than 200,000 times. He said that this material can also be used for screens that are folded outward.
Prior to this, South Korea's Kolon Industries has developed a plastic film that, combined with KAIST's flexible hard coating technology, strengthens the hardness of plastic films and accelerates the folding of commercial steps.
