The smart skin has a neural simulation system that includes a pressure sensor array, a temperature sensor array, a humidity sensor array, a tension sensor array, a resistance heating element, and a scalable multi-level array. Its built-in sensor not only measures external pressure, temperature and humidity, but also senses the extent of external touch. At the same time, the resistance heating software can also simulate the body temperature to produce heat. In addition, 50% synergy between the two can create prosthetics that require high flexibility, such as the wrist.

The researchers said that experiments have shown that after the smart skin is mounted on the prosthesis, the patient can move normally, such as shaking hands and fists, and the stretch can reach up to 30%, and the surface temperature is displayed in the infrared camera and the body temperature. the same.

In addition, scientists will use microelectrodes to connect the nerve endings of mice with smart skin sensors. When an external force is applied to them, the electroencephalogram (EEG) of the mouse shows an electrical signal transmitted to the brain. This suggests that this smart skin can be used to make prosthetic skin.
