The Earth continues to emit 100 million GW of infrared heat energy into outer space. It is sufficient to meet human energy needs for thousands of years. Even collecting only a very small part of it can end our energy crisis. Now, Harvard researchers have proposed a way to collect this unused renewable energy.
Researchers proposed using a device called a "radiation energy harvester" to convert infrared radiation into usable electricity. But researchers also pointed out that today's technology is not enough to create efficient and affordable collectors. They published a paper on PNAS and conceived different ways to implement similar devices.
