Abstract Clarity refers to the amount of impurities, cracks and growth lines contained in diamonds. There is an important correlation between the mechanical properties of diamond and the content of impurities inside the crystal. To this end, a method for automatically detecting diamond clarity using a computer vision system instead of the human eye is presented. By analyzing the color characteristics of diamond color images and ç‘•ç–µ, the HIS color space is selected according to the visual psychological perception characteristics, and the hue H and saturation S are combined as feature parameters to realize the automatic detection of diamond clarity. After MAT-LAB simulation, the experimental results show that with the increase of enthalpy, the accuracy of the system can be as high as 98%, which provides a new way for diamond purity detection.
